Yeouya (Fox Game) - Introduction
Yeouya (Fox Game) is a traditional game with one person as fox and others asking questions. The fox stands with back turned while children sing "Yeouya yeouya mwo hani?" (Fox, fox, what are you doing?) approaching gradually. When fox answers "sleeping," "washing face," or "eating," they continue approaching. But when fox says "Opening the door and coming out!" they turn to chase children. Caught players become the next fox. This game provides great fun with alternating tension and release. Singing develops rhythm sense while building quick reflexes and running ability. Foxes traditionally appear as cunning animals in Korean tales, reflected in this game.
